York St John Business School appoints new Dean and Associate Dean

Published: 15 July 2013

York St John Business School has made two senior appointments which will further enhance developments in business, language and linguistics and strengthen collaboration with the business community in the UK and overseas.

Dr Jenny Naish has been appointed as the new Dean of the Business School, and Noel Dennis will join the Business School as the new Associate Dean. Both Jenny and Noel will take up their positions in September.

Jenny Naish is currently Assistant Dean (Learning, Teaching and Quality) at Teesside University Business School, where she holds responsibility for all aspects of teaching, learning and quality at home and internationally. Prior to joining Teesside in 2008, Jenny worked within Middlesex University’s award winning Institute for Work Based Learning, of which she was a founding member. She was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2006, the first in the country for the development of work based learning. In her earlier career, Jenny worked as a management consultant and held director-level positions at several arts organisations in London.

Commenting on her appointment, Jenny said:
"I'm delighted to be joining the University at such an exciting developmental time in its history. York St John Business School is perfectly poised to make a significant contribution to the growth of the University and to the quality of programmes in leadership, business, languages and linguistics. I welcome the opportunities and challenges this will bring me in enhancing that contribution."

Noel Dennis is currently Associate Dean (Learning, Teaching and Quality) of the Glasgow School for Business and Society at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is a professional jazz trumpet and flugel horn player, working with various artists and leading his own quartet. Noel uses his musical experience to develop a creative approach to business education. He researches the dynamics of jazz improvisation and presents its relevance to organisations. Noel is also founder and editor of a new academic journal, Arts Marketing: An International Journal.

Noel said:
“I am delighted to be joining such a creative and forward thinking institution. The campus is beautiful, facilities are state of the art and I am looking forward to meeting and working with staff and students.”

Professor David Fleming, Vice Chancellor of York St John University commented:
“York St John has ambitious plans for the Business School. Both Jenny and Noel are joining us with a wealth of experience from the education sector and beyond, and we look forward to working with them to ensure its continued success and to assist in the delivery of the University’s exciting vision for the future.”
